Ronald G. Sommer

Ronald G. Sommer, 71, of Stevensville, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2013 at his home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. James Puskala officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Bridgman. Friends may visit from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Berrien County Cancer Service or to Hospice at Home. He retired from Whirlpool after 46 years as an engineer. Ronald married Nancy Yops on March 7, 1964. She preceded him in death on December 30, 2004. He married Lynn Obstfeld Price on June 11, 2011. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He also enjoyed traveling, especially taking vacations to Mexico. Ronald coached his boys in baseball and basketball and also liked watching sports and attending the Indy time trials. In addition to his wife Lynn, he is survived by two sons Todd (Stephanie) Sommer of Uxbridge, Ontario, and Kyle Sommer of Dearborn Heights, MI; a step-daughter Jennifer (Dan) Conroy of Milwaukee, WI; grandchildren Samantha and Quinlan Sommer; step-grandchildren Tyler and Caytlyn Conroy; brothers Robert (Cathy) Sommer of Niles, MI, Roger (Nancy) Sommer of Eaton Rapids, MI; numerous nieces and nephews; an extended family; and his canine companion Ringo. In addition to his first wife Nancy, Ronald was preceded in death by his parents.
