Ruanne McElroy

Ruanne McElroy, daughter of Dr. Charles and Ann Parker, passed away at home, Saturday, May 18, 2013, after a short illness. Ruanne was born January 30, 1933, in River Forest, Illinois. She attended Oak Park-River Forest High School, and graduated with a B.A. from Northwestern University. On September 4, 1954, Ruanne married James B. McElroy, and shortly after she left the business world to raise their family. They enjoyed life together for 59 years. Ruanne was an accomplished pianist, seamstress, accountant, closet tap dancer, bridge player, and flower seed gatherer. She was also an avid reader of non-fiction. She especially enjoyed the W.S.J. crossword puzzles, and hiking the Lakes District and Dartmoor in England. Her loving family includes: husband Jim, son James and wife Nikki, daughter Carol and husband Howard, and grandchildren, Sarah, Amanda, Keely, James, Ian, and Tanner, her brothers Charles and David Parker. Cremation has taken place, and a private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flower, donations can be in her name to the Humane Society of Southwestern Michigan.
