Arthur C. Carlson, 100, formerly of St. Joseph, MI passed away Friday, May 03, 2013 at Piedmont Newnan Hospital in Newnan, GA. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12:00 P.M. Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel & Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd. St. Joseph, with Military Honors to be conducted by the North Berrien Military Rites Team. Burial will be held at a later date at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Friends may visit from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Arthur was born November 4, 1912 in Clayton, WA to Albin & Freda (Carlson) Carlson. He graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1931. On June 13, 1937 he married Geneva Johnson in Newaygo, MI. In 1944 he enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country in WWII, Patton’s 3rd Army, 87th Infantry Division, receiving a Purple Heart Medal on February 2, 1945. He retired from Whirlpool after 32 years as an assembly worker. Arthur was a member of the VFW Post 1137 since 1963. He enjoyed fishing, Lake Michigan and going down to the pier. Arthur is survived by his son Richard (Dee) Carlson, Newnan, GA, granddaughters; Dianne (Rick) Durand, Holden, MA, Lisa Stewart, Nashville, TN, Suzanne (Christopher) Decatur, Shrewsbury, MA and Amy(Mike) Murphy, Ackworth, GA, great-grandchildren; Hunter Stewart, Kelsey Stewart, Samantha Durand, Hanna Durand, Ella Stewart, Sophie Stewart and step great-grandchildren Sierra and Bailey Decatur and Erin Murphy. Niece Shirley Johnson, St. Joseph, MI and sister-in-laws Eva Carlson and Wilma Johnson. Arthur was preceded in death by his wife Geneva, brother Clyde Carlson, and sisters Thelma Watt and Mabel Atkins.
