Alice K. Pagels

Alice K. Pagels, 99, of St. Joseph, a loving mother, “father,” friend and teacher went to be with her Lord on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Friends may visit on Thursday, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Berrien Springs, where she had been a member since 1926, with the service following at 11:00 AM; burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Berrien Center. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid. Friends may leave a condolence online at www.starks-menchinger.com. Arrangements entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Services. Alice was born on November 8, 1913, to George & Katharina (Bosselman) Grime in Three Rivers. The family moved to Berrien Center in 1926 where she attended Berrien Springs High School. On June 29, 1940 she married the love of her life, Frederick Wm. Pagels who preceded her in death in 1948. Alice retired from Heath Co. in 1978 to enjoy her hobbies of gardening, crafts and family. She is survived by a son, Carl F. (Madalyn) Pagels of Benton Harbor; grandson, Dean Sweet of Benton Harbor; granddaughter, Amanda Sweet of Benton Harbor; and great grandsons, Scott and Adam Thomas. A daughter, Joyce K. Totzke of St. Joseph; grandsons, Kevin Totzke of CA; Keith (Diane) Totzke of WA and Robert (Jacque) Ritt of Grand Rapids; and great grandchildren Megan Ritt of IL, and Michael Ritt of Ann Arbor. A daughter, Kathryn D. (Carl J. II) Gostola of Chardon OH; granddaughter, Cheryl Ann (Joshula) Badovisk of OH; great grandsons, Noah Lyle and Elijah Joseph Badovick; and grandson Carl J. III (Bridget) Gostola of SD. A daughter Sharon K. (Jack E., Sr.) Dehring of Statesville, NC; granddaughter, Sindy (Andy) Josey of NC; great grandson, Bradley Clint Josey of NC; great granddaughter Heather Lynn Josey of NC; granddaughter Lissa A. Dehring of IL; grandson, Jack E. (Jennifer) Dehring, Jr. of NC; great grandson, Colton Dean Dehring of NC; granddaughter, Sarah K. Dehring (Eric Cook) of NC; and great granddaughter Laural Mayme of NC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick William Pagels in 1948; son-in-law, Earl E. Totzke in 1994; parents, George and Katharina Grime; sister, Lillian and Earl Daniles; brother, Elmer and Ida Grime; brother, Ernest and Ruth Grime; brother, Wilbur Grime; and in-laws William and Daisy Pagels and Raymond and Veryl Pagels.
