Ernest's Obituary

Ernest A. Wales, 92, of Stevensville, passed way in his home surrounded by his family, Sunday, January 27, 2013. There will be a private service at a later date. Burial will be at Bates Cemetery in Iron River, MI. Arrangements are entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel, St. Joseph, MI. Those wishing to send a condolence message online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Ernest was born April 30, 1920, in Iron River to Sidney & Beatrice (Yeo) Wales. He married Gladys Shoquist in Iron Mountain on June 9, 1940. They moved to St. Joseph in 1978. Gladys preceded him in death. Ernest proudly served his country as a soldier in the Army during WWII. He was a part of the Combined Operations Group, and the 36th Armored Infantry Regiment. Ernest was present on D-Day, June 6, 1944, on Omaha Beach. He received a Purple Heart, a Combat Infantry Badge, and four Bronze Battle Stars. Ernest is survived by his sons; Dennis (Janet) Wales of Berrien Springs, MI; Robert (Janine) Wales of Houghton, MI; Richard (Sherry) Wales of St. Joseph; 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Telfar Wales.
