Sherlock Powers

Sherlock H. Powers, 92, of St. Joseph, MI passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Golden Age Manor in Stevensville, MI. A Celebration of Life Service will be held for family and members of his home church at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Reverend Thomas R. Christie officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma at a later date. Friends may visit from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M Friday, January 18, 2013 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the New Apostolic Church or the Alzheimer’s Association. Sherlock was born July 16, 1920 in Carlisle, TN to Herbert B. & Cora E.(Starnes) Powers. After graduating high school in Arkansas he enlisted in the United States Army and served his Country from 1942- 1945. On June 15, 1962 he married Dorothy J. Shankle in Benton Harbor, MI. Sherlock was employed at Whirlpool for 35 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post in Stevensville, MI. Sherlock is survived by his loving wife Dorothy; son Ven (Kathy) McAndrew of St. Joseph; daughter Linda (Carl) Ochs of Bridgman; grandchildren Stephen McAndrew and Emily McAndrew. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers William and Horace and sisters Lucille, Lillian and Alberta.
