Daniel R. Abbatoy

Daniel R. Abbatoy, 66, of Sodus, passed away, Thursday, January 3, 2013 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 5:00 P.M. Monday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. James Whitman officiating. Burial will follow Tuesday at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan. Friends may call 3:30 until 5:00 P.M. Monday prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Berrien County Baptist Church. He served his country in the US Army, stationed in Vietnam. On February 19, 1971 he married the former Elizabeth Edwards in Pocahontas, VA. Dan was employed at Wrigley Gum in Chicago, retiring after twenty-five years. He enjoyed maintaining his cars. Daniel is survived by his wife of nearly forty-two years Elizabeth “Libby” Abbatoy; four sons-Daniel R. (Carrie) Abbatoy, Jr. of Sodus, Richard (Julia) Abbatoy of Stevensville, Jason (Genevieve) Abbatoy of Knoxville, TN, Mark Abbatoy of Sodus, MI; nine grandchildren-Daniel V., Caitlynn, Zak, Abbagail, Cole, Justin, Eden, Lily, & Iris; two sisters-Connie (James) Shew of Chicago, Mary (Charles) Robinson of Anna, IL; several brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law from Libby’s family; and several nieces & nephews. Dan was preceded in death by his parents.
