Dr. William “Bill” W. Ednie, 91, of Benton Harbor passed away Thursday, December 20, 2012 at his residence.
A Celebration of Life Eternal will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Zion Evangelical Church of Christ, 3001 Veronica Dr., St. Joseph, with Reverend Eric Thorsen officiating. Burial will follow at Crystal Springs Cemetery in Benton Harbor. Friends may visit from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the church. William was born August 20, 1921, in Buchanan, MI, to William B. and Alva C. (Smith) Ednie. He graduated from Buchanan High School, received his undergraduate degree at Albion University and his Doctorate at University of Michigan School of Dentistry. On March 3, 1945 William married Frances Elizabeth Andrews in St. Joseph, MI. William served his county in the United States Navy from 1943-1945. He went into practice with his father in-law, Dr. L.H. Andrews in the St. Joseph area from 1950 until he retired in 1988. William served as a volunteer on various boards and committees of the American Cancer Society and the Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ Church. William served several terms on the Berrien county Council of Churches. He received the Samaritan of the Year Award in 1977. He was a volunteer at Lakeland Hospital and was a member of Auxiliary. William was also a member of American Legion Post 568 and the Boy Scouts and a life time member of the American Dental Association and Alpha Tau Omega.
He was preceded in death by his wife Frances Ednie, daughter Linda Ednie, his parents William B. and Alva C. Ednie, his brothers Harold Ednie and Jack Ednie, sister Helen Homestead. He is survived by his son James Gordon (Aida) Ednie of Benton Harbor.
