Evangeline's Obituary

Evangeline S. “Vangie” Askin, 88, of St. Joseph, died Friday afternoon, November 2nd at 4:15pm in Mequon, Wisconsin. She had lived in the St. Joseph area since 1955 and recently relocated to Wisconsin. She was born on September 29, 1924 in Hillsboro, Illinois to William and Eunice (Brines) Ginos, Sr. A 1942 graduate of Hillsboro High School, she went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Illinois, Champagne-Urbana. Evangeline and Byron E. “Barney” Askin were married in Hillsboro, Illinois in 1946. She is survived by her three children, Nancy E. Askin (Paul Filstrup) of St. Joseph, Carol A. Peppel (Tom) of Cedarburg, Wisconsin and Byron E. Askin II (Phock Hoon Pua) of Singapore. Evangeline has seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was a dedicated teacher in the St. Joseph School System for more than 20 years, an active member of the Riverview Park Christian Church and a long-time member of the Civic Benefit Society. Visiting hours are 5 to 7pm on Thursday, November 8th at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. Funeral services will be held at 11:30am on Friday, November 9th at Riverview Park Christian Church, St. Joseph. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
