Charles Richard Phillips, 90 of Eau Claire, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Wings of Hope Home in Allegan, Michigan. A Private Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, September 21, 2012 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel in St. Joseph. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Charles was born on June 12, 1922 in Overland, Missouri, to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Phillips. He served his country in the United States Army. On April 7, 1976 he married Connie (Kelm) Ashley in Ottawa, IL. As a young man he owned and operated his own tire and auto repair shop. Charles worked as a traveling Pipefitter/Welder allowing him to see many places including Stevensville, where he met Connie. Charles also enjoyed long armed quilting and traveled to many shows with his wife. He was a licensed pilot and passionate about flying, loved to train, ride, and show horses. Charles loved living life to the fullest. He was a great family man and made sure they always came first. Charles is survived by his wife of 36 years, Connie; daughter Diane (Michael) Cotter of Bridgman; sons Dennis Ashley of Stevensville, Stephen Ashley of Bridgman, and Brian (Tammy) Ashley of St. Joseph; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
