Evelyn's Obituary

Evelyn R. (Prillwitz-Woodrick) Schermer, 96, formerly of Benton Harbor, passed away peacefully on Wednesday October 17, 2012, at Skaggs Assisted Living in Burr Oak, Mich. A Celebration of Life Eternal will be held 11 A.M. Monday at Napier Parkview Baptist Church, 245 W. Napier Ave. Benton Harbor, with Dr. J.O. Hosler officiating. Entombment will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens, Coloma. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Napier Parkview Baptist Church. Evelyn was born at home on June 18, 1916 on Nickerson Avenue, Benton Twp., Berrien County to Albert & Amanda (Prillwitz) Woodrich. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1934. On July 21, 1944, she married Albert B. Schermer in Benton Harbor. She was a secretary for 20 years at area Benton Harbor Schools. Evelyn was a lifetime member of Napier Parkview Baptist Church, and was active in teaching Bible school and Bible study; she also helped establish children’s organizations in her church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cross stitch, embroidery, sewing, and gardening. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, sister Amanda, brother Victor Woodrick, eight Prillwitz aunts and uncles whom she grew up with, four step-siblings, a half-brother and a half-sister from her father’s second marriage to the late Louise (Ott) Krieger. She is survived by her son Gordon (Bonnie) Schermer, of South Bend, Ind; daughter Carol (Robert) Brown Wright of Howe, Ind.; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and three half-sisters. The children of Gordon are Amanda (Schermer) Serenevy & Cassandra (Schermer) Darnel. The children of Carol are Michael Brown, Christine (Brown) Mazei & Kim Wright. The children of Michael Brown are Alexandrea Hostetler & Alena Brown. The daughter of Kim Wright is Brienna Wright.
