Mark's Obituary

Mark James Patterson, Sr., 66 of Stevensville, MI was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 5, 2012 after a long-fought battle with cancer. Mark was born in Wilmette, IL on May 13, 1946 to Charles and Mary Patterson. Mark married his wife and best friend of almost 40 years, Nancy Naugle, April 14, 1973. Mark is survived by Nancy and his four children Mia (Derek) Brennan, Mark Jr. (Nancy) Patterson, Janet (Cope) Oskin, James (Jill) Patterson and five grandchildren, Jacob, Elizabeth, Katelinn, Emily, Drew and one on the way. Mark is also survived by three sisters, Sarah Delbarrio, Betsy Sentowski, Kathleen McShane, and two brothers, Paul (Patty) and Timothy Patterson. Mark was preceded in death by his parents and first wife Myong Yon Patterson . Mark retired from IBM in 1998 after 30 years of service there as an international account manager. Mark was a veteran of the United States Army and served from 1966-1968. Along with his service to his country, Mark also spent countless hours devoted to his community and church. He was Scout Master of troop 603, District Chairman of the Southwest MI Boy Scouts of America, Lion’s Club past president, served on the Christian Businessmen Committee and was a longtime member and trustee at Stevensville United Methodist Church. Mark was known fondly by many for his faith, his love of this family, his generosity and his encouraging spirit. When asked how he was doing, Mark would always reply “Every day is a good day”. Visitation for Mark will be held at Starks and Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd. in St. Joseph, on Thursday, November 8, 2012 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held for Mark at Stevensville United Methodist Church, 5506 Ridge Rd., Stevensville on Friday, November 9, 2012 at 1:00 pm with interring at Hickory Bluff Cemetery in Stevensville, MI. Memorials in Mark’s honor can be made to Boy Scout Troop 603, Hospice at Home, and Stevensville United Methodist Church.
