Eugene's Obituary
Eugene Henry Priemer passed away at Allegan General Hospital, in Allegan, MI. on August 18, 2012 with his niece Prudy Vondran at his side. Eugene was born on 26 July, 1916 at Ruth, Michigan in Sherman Township to Luicus and Anna Priemer. On September 13, 1938 he married the late Sylvia Ann Rumptz. He later married Vera Catania Weinberg on October 11, 1973.
Eugene farmed in Sherman Township with his father and brother for several years. He owned a sawmill near Ruth, Michigan and eventually worked road construction in Michigan for several years, building some of the overpasses on I 94. After his retirement he moved to Walahalla, Michigan and later to Stevensville, Michigan. He loved woodworking, gardening, hunting, and fishing. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in in Bridgman, MI.
Eugene is survived by his five daughters; Judy (Jerome) Messing of Ubly, MI, Karen (Harold) Gornowicz of Ubly, MI, Jean (Dan) Kramer of Harbor Beach, MI, Cheryl (Jim) Hill of Lexington, KY, and Luann (Calvin) Oberski of Ruth, MI. He had 17 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter, 5 step-grandchildren and 10 step-great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters Johanna Oberski, Delores Higgins Frantz of Florida, Rita Oberski, Doris Glaza of Ubly, MI and Colleta Magalski of Westland, MI, and several nieces and nephews. After the death of his wife he was assisted throughout his retirement by his primary care-givers, nieces Prudy Catania Vondran of Coloma, Carmella Catania Bryant of Stevensville and nephew Ralph Catania of Benton Harbor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Sylvia, his second wife Vera, granddaughter Cathy Klee, brother Joseph and sisters Winnie Sofka and Rita Oberski and three brothers-in-law.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 3903 Lake St., in Bridgman with Fr. Arthur Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Benton Harbor. Friends may visit from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. with a rosary recited at 7:30 P.M. Tuesday, August 21, 2012 the funeral home.
