Helene A. Siewert, 87, of St. Joseph, went home to Heaven, Monday, September 17, 2012 in Saginaw, MI. A Celebration of Life Eternal will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Colfax & Kline Aves., Benton Harbor with Rev. Jeremy Laitinen officiating. Burial will follow at Lincoln Township Cemetery, Stevensville. Friends may call from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Friday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Helene was born June 15, 1925 in Benton Harbor to Rudolph & Emelia (Meisel) Ziemer. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1943. On June 26, 1948, she married Lenord Siewert in Benton Harbor. Together they celebrated 64 happy years of marriage. Helene was employed as a bookkeeper for twenty-six years by A&P Grocery. Most of her career was at the store on Riverview Dr. in Benton Harbor until they closed, and finished at the store in Niles, retiring in 1982. She was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church where she was active in Ladies Aide and in the choir. Helene was a licensed pilot in her earlier days and a member of the Flying Club at Ross Field in Benton Harbor. She and Lenord enjoyed traveling across the United States to visit their loving grandchildren & great grandchildren, and to Europe to visit other relatives. In her free time, she enjoyed quilting, sewing and genealogy. Helene is survived by her husband Lenord; three daughters-Lenore (Gary) Krug, Michelle (Ron) Sosinski, Cynthia Siewert; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her sister Lydia Greichen; and two sisters-in-law-Caroline & Florence Ziemer. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by four brothers.
