Lois Johnson

Lois Johnson, 79, of St. Joseph, Went to meet her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, Monday, August 13, 2012 at Caretel Inns of Lakeland in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Eternal will be held 11:30 A.M. Friday, at First Baptist Church, 902 Broad St., St. Joseph, with Rev. Marlo Fritzke officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph. Friends may call from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Michigan Juvenile Diabetes Association or YMCA Senior Programs. She graduated from Hindman High School in 1951. On September 26, 1953, she married Robert D. Johnson in Richmond, Virginia. Lois was employed as a waitress & hostess at several St. Joseph restaurants over the years, and following retirement, she volunteered at the Lakeland Hospital Coffee Shop. She was an active member of First Baptist Church where she was often found in the kitchen and fellowship hall. Lois was an excellent cook, and cherished the time spent with her family. In her free time, Lois enjoyed reading. Lois is survived by her children Barbara (David) Strlekar of Cassopolis, MI, Greg (Carol) Johnson of Hudsonville, MI, Mike (Debbie) Johnson of Lenoir City, TN; six grandchildren-Nicole, Monica, Andrea, Jennifer, Chris M. & Chris J.; five great-grandchildren; three brothers-French (Betty) Jones of Oak Grove, LA, Silas (Margaret) Jones of St. Cloud, FL, Ray (Helen) Jones of New Orleans, LA; two sisters-Faye (Tom) Wills of Mechanicsville, VA, Gwen (Charles) Grubbs of Lakeland, FL; and numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert on February 24, 1994, and by six brothers & sisters-Carl Jones, Marie Nickles, Bea Weinberger, Havana Turrell, Glenn Jones & Geneva Winn.
