Gino's Obituary
Gino DaDan, 84 of St. Joseph died peacefully Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Lakeland hospital surrounded by his children.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 am Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 211 Church Street. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may visit from 5 to 7 pm with a Rosary to follow at 7 pm on Monday, August 6 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road in St. Joseph. Memorial contributions may be made to Lake Michigan Catholic Schools, 915 Pleasant Street, St. Joseph. Gino was born August 17, 1927 in Stevensville to John and Maria (Bassani) DaDan. He graduated from Stevensville High School in 1946 and Benton Harbor Junior College in 1948. He received his degree from Michigan State College in 1952 and remained an avid Spartan fan. Gino attended Columbia College in Chicago where he met his wife Caryl. They were married in St. Edmond’s Catholic Church in Oak Park, Illinois.
Gino was a member of the St. Joseph-Benton Harbor Elks #541, the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Berrien Hills Country Club, the St. Joseph River Yacht Club and St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a life-long golfer and gin rummy player and an enthusiastic supporter of his children’s sports teams and Laker activities. He could be found at the 4:30 and 6:00 Masses on any weekend serving as usher, lector or Eucharistic Minister on every Saturday night for almost the past 50 years.
Gino is survived by his wife Caryl; children, Mary (Paul) McEvoy of Harrison, NY; Gina DaDan of New York City, NY; Jami (Steve) Harrington of Marquette, MI; Lisa DaDan of St. Joseph, MI.; John E. (Kate) DaDan of LaGrange, IL.; and Joe (Georgene) DaDan of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Stephen and Matt McLain, Paul Christopher and Carolyn McEvoy, Ella and Louis DaDan and Joey DaDan, and a brother, Anthony (Bernice) DaDan of Stevensville, MI. He is preceded in death by his parents- John and Maria, a brother-Albino, and a nephew – John DaDan.
