Steven's Obituary

Steven B. MacGowan of Sodus, formerly of Hartford, passed away at his home on June 12, 2012, at the age of 58. He is survived by his wife of 33 years Angelika (Skale); son, Sean; sister Janet (Stan) Langston of Waterford; sister-in-law Hildegard Krueger of Niles; brother-in-law Erich (Marie) Skale of Elkhart, IN and Arthur (Linda) Skale of St. Joseph; also many cousins, nieces, nephews, and loving friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Samantha, and his parents Carmen and Shirley MacGowan of Hartford. Steve was born July 20, 1953 and graduated from Hartford High School in 1971. He attended Lake Michigan College before moving to Glendale, Arizona, in 1973 where he pursued his passion for music. Upon returning to Michigan on 1976, he worked at Bangor Cooler in Hartford while studying and perfecting his artistic talents. Steve has been an accomplished wood relief artist for over 30 years and his works have appeared in galleries and museums throughout Michigan as well as cities such as New York, Philadelphia, Chicago and Saugatuck. In addition to his career, Steve was an avid golfer, a skilled guitarist, and an enthusiastic collector of antiquities. Even during the course of his illness, his unique sense of humor was enjoyed by all who knew him. A visitation will be held at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, Friday, June 15 from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. A Celebration of Life Eternal will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Colfax & Kline Ave. in Benton Harbor. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Matthews Lutheran Church or the Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.
