Phyllis's Obituary
Tuesday, July 3, 2012 Phyllis Young of Benton Harbor made her peaceful journey home to be with the Lord.
Phyllis was born February 18, 1929 in Marked Tree, Arkansas to Isaac & Mary (Luster) Williams. She moved from Arkansas to Benton Harbor where she met Leonard Young, they were married on May 22, 1952 and began to raise their family. In May of 1964 Leonard was taken from their family and was waiting for her as she made this journey home.
Phyllis continued on to raise and is survived by her children- Sharon (Kathryn) Young of Apache Junction, AZ, Leonard (Sondra) Young of Irons, MI, Sue (Steve) Lick of Otsego, MI, Jackie (Jim) Hartman of Mesa, AZ, and Joseph (Sandy) Young of St. Joseph, and a step-son Jerry (Charlotte) Young of Benton Harbor
She was also blessed to be survived by seven grandchildren-Kenneth Skibbe, Andrew Skibbe, Kari Skibbe, Bradley Piraino, Cathy Lee-Ann Kublick, Daniel and Dustin Young, Five great-grandchildren; a sister Mary Williams of Jonesboro, AR; and numerous nieces & nephews.
Phyllis was a member of Chapel Hill UM Church and this is where she raised her family and found great peace in being a family member there in the house of the Lord. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, crafts, cooking, and most of all, the time spent with her family, they were truly the center of her life.
She was preceded in death by her grandson Lester Young in November 1979, and by three brothers-Raymond, Herbert & Kenneth Williams, and by her sister Nita Jean Williams.
Phyllis was employed as a waitress & cook at several area restaurants, and she was a long time member of Moose Lodge #1570 in Benton Harbor.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 4071 Naomi Rd., Sodus. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Chapel Hill United Methodist Church or St. Jude’s Hospice, 1660 S. Alma School Rd., Mesa, AZ 85210.
