Robert's Obituary

Robert C. Gorenflo, 91, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2012 at home in St. Joseph. Robert was born September 15, 1920 to Clarence and Rosa (Greenland) Gorenflo in Marion, Ohio, the oldest of 5 children. He graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1939. Robert served in the Navy during World War II aboard the destroyer U.S.S. John R. Pierce. In 1947 he married Maxine Joyce Gorsuch in Marion, Ohio. In 1955 Robert began his career at Whirlpool Corp. Marion Division, transferring to St. Joseph in 1960, where he worked as a packaging engineer at the St. Joseph Tech Center until his retirement in 1983. Robert loved spending time with his family, and was also involved in bowling, golf, Coast Guard Auxiliary, volunteering at Lakeland Hospital, and working on special church projects at Napier Parkview Baptist Church. Robert is survived by his wife, Maxine; daughter, Sheila (Armin) Schultz; son Bruce (Christine) Gorenflo; grandchildren, Eric, Joel, and Evan Gorenflo; brother, Donald “Jack” Gorenflo, sisters Phyllis Colegrove and Erma Williams, and cousin Jack Shaffer, all of Marion; sister-in-law, Bettie Gorenflo, of Venice, FL; and many nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and brother, John Franklin Gorenflo. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 10, at Napier Parkview Baptist Church at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. John O. Hosler officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 P.M. on Monday, April 9 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, St. Joseph.
