Betty J. Hafer

Betty J. Hafer, 85, of Sodus, passed away, Saturday, May 19, 2012 at The Willows Assisted Living in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Eternal will be held 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 3713 Naomi Rd., Sodus, with Rev. Robert Duehlmeyer officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Sodus. Friends may call from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. Monday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Betty was born April 28, 1927 in Sodus, Michigan as the eighth child of Carl & Pauline (Teichman) Polashak. On September 14, 1946, she was united in holy matrimony with Arnold A. Hafer in Sodus. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Constance, Beverly, Albert & Keith. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sodus where she served on Ladies Aid. Betty was a 4-H leader, a valued member of The Red Hat Lady Society, and was a proud participant of the Michigan “Snowbirds” spending winters in Leesburg, Florida. A hard working, determined, and social woman, she spent the majority of her time alongside her husband on their farm in Sodus and spending time with her family and dear friends. Betty was the heart and soul of the Hafer family. Betty is survived by her two sons, Albert (Ruth) Hafer of Niles & Keith (Val) Hafer of Sodus, a son-in-law Lester Keigley of Sodus, six grandchildren-David Keigley, Christopher (Sarah) Hafer, Kristina (Sean) Barel, Adam Hafer, Stephanie (Shaun) Klug, Nicholas Hafer; five great-grandchildren; and a sister Helen Kwast of Grand Rapids. She was preceded in death by her daughter Beverly in 1971, husband Arnold in 1996, and daughter Connie in 2001, and six brothers & sisters.
