Irene's Obituary

Irene Mak, 91, of St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Eternal will be held 1:00 P.M. Monday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Burial will follow at Lincoln Township Cemetery, Stevensville. Friends may call from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Irene was born December 9, 1920 in Chicago, Illinois to John & Theresa (Kernbaur) Posch. On May 7, 1938, she married Henry L. Mak, Jr. in Calumet City, Illinois. Irene was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church & a volunteer at the St. Joseph-Lincoln Senior Center. She enjoyed baking rolls & deserts. Irene cherished the time spent with her family on the holidays, and attending her grandchildren’s sporting activities, band concerts & dance recitals. Irene is survived by her children-Henry J. (Arlene) Mak of St. Joseph, Sherry (Larry) LaVanway of Benton Harbor, Sue (Mark) VanderBee of St. Joseph; her son-in-law Guy Daniel of Coloma; ten grandchildren & thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Henry Jr. in 1982, her daughter Kathleen “Kitty” Daniel, an infant brother John Posch, Jr., and by two sisters-Katherine Furmanski & Ida Parish.
