Edward's Obituary
Edward Hettig, 80, formerly of St. Joseph now of Paw Paw, MI, died on Monday, April 16, 2012 at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo, MI. Arrangements have been entrusted with Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home in St, Joseph, MI.
Edward was born Sept. 24, 1931 in St. Joseph to Herman and Natalie (Drews) Hettig. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1949. Edward then served his country while in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was employed at Whirlpool for many years as an industrial engineer, and retired in 1987 as a benefits administrator. Edward was a diehard Detroit Tiger Fan; was a manager for Little League Baseball for many years; he loved to vacation in his cabin in northern Michigan; and was a current member of Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Joseph.
Edward is survived by his wife Margrette of Paw Paw, MI; his son Greg (Kathy) Hettig of Eau Claire, MI; two grandchildren, Jessica (Justin) Bebout of Rockmak, GA and Megan Hettig (David Holcomb) of Woodstock, GA; four great grandchildren; a step-granddaughter, Amy (Michael) Emery of Coloma, MI; three step-grandsons, Robert Moxley (Rachel Fitz – Coloma, MI) of St. Joseph, MI, Austin (Kristy) Moxley of Coloma, MI, and Shawn Moxley (Sigthrudur Sigurdardottir – Iceland) of Benton Township, MI; thirteen step great grandchildren; three brothers, Albert Hettig of St. Joseph, Donald (Ruth) Hettig of Eau Claire, MI and Michael (Sandy) Hettig of Benton Harbor, MI; and two sisters, Anita (Jack) Mitchell of Cincinnati, OH and Doris (James) Bucholtz of Sylvania, OH. He is preceded in death by his parents-Herman and Natalie, his first wife-Charmaine, and three brothers-Arthur, Gerhard and Herman, Jr.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, April 20, 11:30am, at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. Michael Roth officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Visitation is on Thursday from 5:30-7:00pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church of St. Joseph, or to Animal Aid.
