Peter's Obituary
Peter Vergot, Jr., 82, of Stevensville, passed away, Thursday, March 22, 2012 surrounded by his loving family, at his home where he was also born.
Celebration of Life Services will be held 11:30 A.M. Monday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Rev. Gordon Barry officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Bluff Cemetery, Stevensville. Friends may call from 2:00 until 5:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Michigan State University Endowment Fund for Horticulture or the American Diabetes Association. Pete was born November 1, 1929 in Stevensville to Peter & Rose (Milasincic) Vergot, Sr. On October 24, 1953, he married the former Doris Darlene Harding in South Bend, Indiana. Pete & Darlene owned & operated Vergot’s Farm Market in Stevensville. He delighted in growing and delivering the first crate of Strawberries to the Benton Harbor Fruit Market for many years; and enjoyed attending farm auction sales. Pete loved the woods in the upper peninsula where he went for his annual deer hunting trips, and cherished the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of the Southwest Michigan Vegetable Growers and the Michigan State Horticulture Society.
Pete is survived by his wife Darlene; four children-Dr. Pete (Cheryl) Vergot, III of Tallahassee, FL, Judith (Edwin) Krager of Stevensville, Jeffery Vergot of Stevensville, Anthony (Kari) Vergot of Las Vegas, NV; four grandchildren-Kelly VanHusan of Mason, MI, Elyn Krager of Stevensville, Petra Vergot & Jeffery Vergot, Jr. of Three Oaks; one great-grandson Gavin Vergot; and his brother John (Donna) Vergot of Stevensville. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Daniel Vergot, and two sisters-Stella Schoenfelder & Ann Ster.
