David Closson

David Closson, 65, of Benton Harbor, passed away Monday morning, February 20, 2012 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph. Dave was born in Benton Harbor on September 24, 1946 to Jack Closson & Evelyn Closson Hartman. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1964 and attended Lake Michigan College. Dave was raised on the family farm north of Benton Harbor where he met his wife, Sandra Johnson, and they were married on Sept. 25, 1965. He was a welder, learning the trade from his father’s welding business. He worked for various companies, including Benton Harbor Engineering, Mono Ceramics, K&M, Potlach and currently was employed by Lindberg MPH in Riverside. He was also a bartender for many years at Blossom Lanes Bowling Alley and Louie’s. Dave was a life member of the South Haven Moose Family Center #697 where he was a member of the Fellowship Degree. He is survived by his wife, Sandy; daughter Kathleen (Todd) Burton of Hamilton, MI and son Michael (Gloria Jean) of Benton Harbor; step-father Charles Hartman of St. Joseph; brothers Jack (Nancy) Closson of Costa Mesa, CA, Tommie (Linda) Closson of Stevensville, Stephen (Brenda) Hartman of Eau Claire and Bob (Jeanne) Hartman of Stevensville; grandchildren Laura, Lindsey, Calvin Burton; step-grandchildren Stefanie and Bobby Hankins; and great-grandchildren; in-laws Harold and Jean Johnson of Apache Junction, AZ and sister-in-law Ginger Johnson of Apache Junction, AZ; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Jack (Madge) Closson, mother Evelyn Hartman, grandparents, brother-in-law Jack Rendall and step-grandson Michael Hankins. He loved to go up North deer hunting with his cousins. Per Dave’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and no memorial services are scheduled at this time.
