Nancy's Obituary

Nancy Webster, Stevensville, died peacefully on March 9. She had been admitted to Bronson Methodist Hospital the evening of March 8, and was resting comfortably, surrounded by family, when she died. She is survived by Portus Webster, her devoted husband of nearly 42 years; sons Peter (Katie) Webster, Holland, MI; and Joshua (Brandy) Webster, grandson Riley Webster, granddaughters Charity Ramsby and Celesta Webster, all of whom reside in Kalamazoo; sister, Mary Jane (Tom) Miller, Pequot Lakes, MN.; nephew Tom (Jenedee) Miller, St. Paul, MN.; niece Amy (Troy) Hillstrom, Minnetonka, MN: sister-in-law, Gianina Holmes, Tampa, FL; and an extended network of family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Mildred Long, of Benton Harbor. Nancy was born in Benton Harbor, graduated from St. John’s High School, attended Creighton University, and was an area resident virtually her entire life. She was an accomplished mult-tasker before her time, deftly combining a 28 year career in bank management with the demands of managing her household and the watchful oversight of two extremely spirited sons. Eventually Nancy found the time to pursue other interests as well. She was secretary of the Benton Harbor-Fairplain Lions Club, a 15 year member of the Stevensville American Legion Ladies’ Auxilliary, and an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was also an avid reader, an enthusiastic and accomplished cook, and an unabashed fan of a wide range of sports and teams at the high school, college and professional level. From Lakeshore football and baseball, to the Wolverines, Lions and Tigers, to NASCAR, you could hear Nancy cheering her favorites. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 17, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 211 Church St., St. Joseph with Fr. Alphonse officiating. Private burial will follow at Crystal Springs Cemetery in Benton Harbor. Memorial donations may be made to the Benton Harbor-Fairplain Lions Club. Those wishing to sign Nancy’s Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
