Irene Tanber

Irene “Lala” Tanber, 89, of Stevensville, passed away Friday, October 21, 2011 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. Philip Quardokus officiating. Burial will follow at Lincoln Township Cemetery in Stevensville. Irene was born June 9, 1922 in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. On June 27, 1944, she married Nicholas Tanber in Gary, Indiana. He preceded her in death on May 30, 2000. Irene was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. She enjoyed cooking and the time spent with her family. Irene is survived by her daughter Linda Gioupis of St. Joseph; two grandchildren-John (Crystal) Gioupis and Gina Reitz, both of Stevensville; and four great-grandchildren-Alisha, Ryan, Sarah & Trevor. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Stanley Smith.
