Kay's Obituary
Kay Marie Zitta-Dansfield passed away on October 28, 2011 at Holland Hospital in Holland, Michigan. Angels fly thee to thy rest.
Kay was born on March 7, 1949 in St. Joseph, Michigan, she celebrated the same birthday as her mother Audrey, who preceded her in death, as did her father Frank.
She is survived by Raymond Dansfield, who was her husband and soulmate for 32 years, her brother Keith, and many beloved extended families, including relatives in England.
She cherished the Zitta home on LaSalle Avenue, attended Jefferson School, St. Joseph Junior High School, graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1967, and pursued a teaching degree at Central Michigan University.
She always held dear her school friends and coordinated many class reunions, which never would have occurred without her.
Having worked alongside her parents through the 1960’s at Zitta’s Grill and at the concession at Lion’s Park Beach, she instinctively knew how to make the best hamburgers and malts in town. Around 1974 she partnered with her father and became an astute business owner of Zitta’s Grill and then Zitta’s at The Depot until 1997.
Kay was also an accomplished seamstress, caterer and innkeeper. Always with a twinkle in her eyes, she entrusted her joy of life and laughter to everyone who knew and loved her.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at the First Congregational Church of St. Joseph, Michigan officiated by Dr. Robert Braman.
In Lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations in her name to The Humane Society of Southwest Michigan, 641 S. Crystal Ave., Benton Harbor, Michigan 49022 or to the First Congregational Church, 2001 Niles Ave., St. Joseph 49085.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel of St. Joseph, Michigan. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
