Earl's Obituary
Earl Charles Grentz, 93, died Friday October 7, 2011 at the Whitcomb Towers in St. Joseph.
Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 on Tuesday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the funeral home, at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, officiated by Rev. Wade S. Panse; burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery with Military Rites conducted. Earl was born in Chicago, IL on March 2, 1918 to Charles & Mary (Poulk) Grentz. After his schooling he worked for General Electric X Ray Corporation and Air Comfort Corporation before moving to Michigan in 1949. He was employed by Whirlpool for 33 years before retiring in 1983. During WWII he served in the US Navy from 1942 to 1946 as a Refrigeration Specialist, First Class Petty Officer. Earl was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Whirlpool Old Timers Club and a life member of V.F.W. 1137. He enjoyed golfing, tennis, boating, and was a Chicago Bears and University of Michigan football fan.
He is survived by his daughter Carol (Dan ) Meister of St. Joseph; three grandchildren – Scott (Cortney) Murphy, Lori (Bryan) Young, Terry Meister; five great grandchildren – Jacob Krieger, Brittney Murphy, Lani Young, Maddux Murphy, Maizie Murphy.
Earl was preceded in Death by his wife Virginia on February 5, 2009.
