Evelyn Hartman

Evelyn Hartman, 92, of Benton Harbor, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Royalton Manor in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:30 P.M. Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with pastor Phillip Quardokus officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. Friends may visit from 1:00 P.M. until 2:30 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers and plants memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church or the American Alzheimer Association. Those wishing to share a memory of Evelyn may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Evelyn was born May 7, 1919 in Benton County, IN to Oscar & Nettie (Jarvis) Ellsworth. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1937. On December 7, 1963 she married Charles Hartman in Benton Harbor. Evelyn worked as a secretary at Whirlpool for many years. In her spare time she enjoyed bowling, golfing, traveling, reading, monthly luncheons with her classmates and spending time with family and friends. Evelyn was also a long time member of the Methodist Peace Temple. Evelyn is survived by her husband Charles Hartman of Benton Harbor; sons Jack (Nancy) Closson of California, David (Sandy) Closson of Benton Harbor, Tom (Linda) Closson of Stevensville, Stephen (Brenda) Hartman of Eau Claire, and Bob (Jeanne) Hartman of Stevensville; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers and sisters.
