Donald's Obituary
Donald Paul Phillips, 81, of Stevensville, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Lakeland Continuing Care Center (LCCC) in St. Joseph, MI.
A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, August 1, 2011 at 10:00 AM, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 404 E. Glenlord Rd., St. Joseph with Pastor Noah Hendrick officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma. His friends and family will gather with friends on Sunday from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church or the LCCC Activities Dept. in St. Joseph, MI. Those wishing to leave a memory online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
Donald was born on April 4, 1930, in Benton Harbor, MI to Carl and Mable (Kittell) Phillips. He married Barbara Boffmeyer on February 10, 1951, in St. Joseph, MI. Donald served our country in the United States Navy for twenty years and worked as a maintenance supervisor at Whirlpool Corporation for eighteen years. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Stevensville American Legion and the Benton Harbor VFW Fleet Reserve. Donald enjoyed golfing and walking.
Donald is survived by his devoted wife Barbara; sons David (Sally) Phillips of Mooresville, NC, Doug (Christine) Phillips of Troy, MO and Don (Shari) Phillips of Buchanan; daughter Brenda (Barry) Gravitt of Berrien Springs; grandchildren Eric Phillips, Jay Phillips, Jennifer Veal, Josh Phillips, Rayna Phillips, Kyle Phillips, Andrew Phillips, Jacob Phillips, Brooke Phillips, Paul Gravitt and Katie Fox; sisters Raina Witkowski of St. Joseph, June Kasischke of St. Joseph and Margie Lange of Berrien Springs and a brother Richard (Ruth) Phillips of Virginia Beach, VA.
He was preceeded in death by his parents Carl and Mable Phillips.
