Hedwig's Obituary
Hedwig Malzon, 85, of St. Joseph, went to meet her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, Thursday, July 14, 2011 at her home.
A Celebration of Life Eternal will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday at Washington Ave. Church of God, 4051 Washington Ave., St. Joseph with Rev. Andreas Hannich officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Bluff Cemetery, Stevensville. Friends may call from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. today at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Mrs. Malzon was born November 22, 1925 in Poland to Huldreich & Hulda (Pohl) Herbstreit. On June 20, 1948 she married Robert Malzon in Berka, Germany. They moved to the United States and settled in St. Joseph. Hedwig dedicated herself to her family and her church. She cherished the time spent with her family, immediate and extended. She was very involved at Washington Ave. Church of God. She was active in Sunday School, working in the kitchen-cooking & serving, tending to the flowers and landscape around the church, sending clothing overseas for missions, or doing whatever else was needed. She enjoyed cooking and baking for family & friends at home and at church. She served as a cook for many youth camps & retreat for many years. She cherished the time spent at Warner Camp in Grand Junction. She & her husband received the Volunteers of the Year Award in 2002.
Hedwig is survived by her husband Robert; her children-Margit (Siegfried) Pudel of Brampton, Ontario, Gerald (Cherie) Malzon of St. Joseph, Ronald (Nancy) Malzon of Victoria, British Columbia; six grandchildren-Andrea (Frank) Struth, Christian (Vicki) Pudel, Jennifer (Daniel) Vasconez, Jeremy (Laura) Malzon, Michelle Wittendorf, Nathan Malzon; nine great-grandchildren; four sisters-Herta Meier of St. Joseph, Tilly (Don) Fedor of St. Joseph, Elsa Stadelmayer of Indianapolis, Margie (Gerald) Zoller of Stevensville; a sister-in law Erika Herbstreit of St. Joseph; and numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Herman Herbstreit in 2007, and by two brothers-in-law-Walter Meier & Rudy Stadelmayer.
