Evelyn Lucille Bartel

Evelyn Lucille (Stover) Bartel, 92, formally of Baroda, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2011 at Lakeland Specialty Center in Berrien Center. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:00 A.M. Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Pastor Christopher Noffke officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Run Cemetery. Friends may visit from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at the funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Central County Senior Center in Berrien Spring or Lakeland Hospice. Those wishing to share a memory online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Evelyn was born September 14, 1918 in Watervliet, MI to Orvis & Alzina (Paget) Stover. She was the oldest of six children, three brothers and two sisters. Evelyn grew up on a farm north of Berrien Springs. She graduated from Berrien Spring High School in 1937. On August 10, 1940 she married William (Bill) Bartel in Benton Harbor. They had one son Kenneth who preceded them in 1968. Evelyn worked as a clerk for the Hollywood Store for 5 years and Gast Farm Supply for 22 years and was a machine operator for Wollin Products for 11 years. Evelyn was a loving wife mother, sister, aunt and friend. In her spare time she enjoyed traveling to Florida, gardening, going out to eat and was an avid reader and puzzler. Evelyn is survived by her brothers Marion (Charlotte) Stover, Lester (Dawn) Stover; nephews Terry (Cheryl) Bartel and Larry (Jan) Bartel; sister-in-law Dorothy Stover; brother-in-law Frank Kurowski; and many nieces and nephews. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband William, son Kenneth, two sisters Arlene Bartel and Elaine Kurowski, and brother Max Stover.
