Ruth Young

Ruth (Auntie) Young, 91, of St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2011, at home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, June 13, 2011 at Grace Lutheran Church 404 E. Glenlord Rd., St. Joseph, with Pastor Noah Headrick officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma. Family and friends may visit Sunday 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. at Starks and Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Ruth was born March 4, 1920 in Milwaukee, WI to Gerald Sernau & Ella (Polzien) Sernau. On March 14, 1941, she married Orren Young in Benton Harbor, Michigan. She was a devoted wife, mother, housewife, and enjoyed raising her sons, sewing, and gardening and over the course of her life cared for several German Shepherds. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her, including her beloved German Shepherd Joey. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Orren and her Brother Raymond Sernau. Ruth is survived by her sons Michael (Deborah) Young of Coloma and Terry Young of St. Joseph, 1 Granddaughter and 3 Great Grandchildren. She is also survived by Nephews Ronald Young, Bill Richardson and Ken Richardson. Also nephews Kerry (Vicki) Sernau of Berrien Springs, Gerry Sernau of Benton Harbor and Ray Sernau of St. Joseph, nieces Cheryl (Doug) Anthony, Lori (Brian) Shank of St. Joseph and several great nephews and nieces.
