William's Obituary

William Schlichter, 90 of St. Joseph, formally of Chicago passed away March 16, 2011 at the Whitcomb Tower in St. Joseph. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 10:00 A.M. March 26, 2011 at St. Bede the Venerable Church, 8200 S. Kostner Ave., Chicago IL, 60652. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Evergreen Park in IL. Friends may visit from 9:00 A.M. until 10:00 A.M. Saturday at the Church. Memorials may be made to Hospice at Home, 4025 Health Park Lane, St. Joseph, MI 49085. Those wishing to share a memory online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. William was born September 9, 1920 in Chicago, IL to George & Fraina (Rash) Schlichter. He graduated from St. Rita High School in Chicago IL. He served his country from 1942 until 1945 as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corp. William participated in the invasion of the Pacific island of Saipan in the Mariana Islands. On July 19, 1952 he married Eleanor Riedle in Chicago, IL. William worked as a repair man for AT&T for forty years. William enjoyed golfing and bowling and was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. William is survived by his wife Eleanor Riedle of St. Joseph, MI; son Matthew (Amy) Schlichter of Stevensville, MI; daughter Ariel (Mary Ellen) Valyo, DVM of Chicago, IL; grandson William Schlichter; many nieces & nephews. William was preceded in death by his parents, brother George Schlichter and sister Emma Engel.
