Eleanor's Obituary

Eleanor M. Hoffman, age 92, formerly of St. Joseph, passed away at the Bickford Cottage in Oswego, Illinois on Friday, February 25, 2011. She was born on August 12, 1918 in Benton Harbor, MI the daughter of Edward and Hattie (Nimtz) Shults. Eleanor was united in marriage on March 18, 1944 in St. Joseph, MI to Mr. Albert “Bud” Hoffman and they spent the next 59 happy years of their lives together. Eleanor was employed for many years at Richardson Office Equipment in Benton Harbor. She was a long time member of the Benton Harbor Lioness Club and Saron Lutheran Church in St. Joseph. In October of 2001, she and Bud moved to Illinois to be closer to their son. Eleanor was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her son, Ronald (Lou Ann) Hoffman of Yorkville, IL; her grandchildren, Alan (Janel) Hoffman of Aurora, IL and Jay (Sarah) Hoffman of Fitchburg, WI, as well as 5 nieces and nephews. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Hattie Shults; her husband, Albert “Bud” Hoffman; her brother, Walter Shults; and her sister, Ruth Kuehl. Visitation will be held at the Starks & Menchinger Funeral Home in St. Joseph, MI on Saturday, March 12 from 9:30am to 11:30am. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11:30am on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the funeral home. Interment will take place at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma, MI. In lieu of flowers the family is suggesting a memorial in Eleanor's name to Saron Lutheran Church, St. Joseph, Odyssey VistaCare Hospice Foundation or Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
