Gregory's Obituary
Gregory L. Pelkey, 63 of Berrien Springs, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2011 peacefully at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 A.M. Thursday, March 10, 2011 at St. Gabriel's Catholic Mission, 429 Rose Hill in Berrien Springs with Father Arthur Howard officiating. Burial will be held at Pearl Grange Cemetery in Benton Harbor. Friends may visit from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with a Rosary recited at 7:30 P.M. Memorials may be made to the Soup Kitchen of Benton Harbor or to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Grand Rapids. Those wishing to share a memory online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
Gregory was born July 15, 1947 in Benton Harbor, MI to Robert & Millie (Merrill) Pelkey. Greg grew up in Buchanan enjoying many adventures, especially with his Mag 7 buddies. On December 16, 1967 he married Lynda Piggott in Benton Harbor. Gregory and Lynda were owners of R & D Electric for twenty years.
In his spare time he enjoyed playing third base for Legus Shell softball team. He traveled across the United States where he visited 49 states. Some of the journeys with his good friend Tom Kerr. He also volunteered his time delivering meal on wheels, administered communion to patients at Lakeland Specialty Hospital and working with the Jail Ministry.
Greg enjoyed riding his motorcycles and exploring Southwestern Michigan. We will miss his sense of humor and the sparkle in his bright blue eyes that accompanied it, his smile and how he never minced words.
Gregory is survived by his wife Lynda Pelkey of Berrien Springs; children Cynthia Pelkey of Niles, Jennifer Pelkey of CA., Gregory Pelkey and Fiancé Laura Medbery of Chicago, and Nathanael Pelkey of Holland, MI.; two sisters Roberta (Michael) Whittaker of St. Joseph, Patricia (Ron) Collins of Homer Glen, IL.; brother Bruce (Kathy) Pelkey of TX; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Gregory was preceded in death by his parents and brother Tom Pelkey.
