Leonard P. Turner, 84, of Benton Harbor, passed away Wednesday, February 09, 2011 at Jordan's Nursing Home in Bridgman.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00A.M. Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens. Friends may visit from 5:00P.M. until 7:00P.M. Friday, February 11, 2011 at the funeral home. Leonard was born September 2, 1926 in Nettleton, AR., to Pat & Ethel (Winters) Turner. He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII on the USS Breton and was awarded the American Theatre Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal and Victory Medal. Leonard married Wanda Faye Haag on August 30, 1947, she preceded him in May of 1994. On June 25, 1996 he married Sue Stark Mooney. Leonard retired from Modern Plastics Corp. as General Forman with 51 years of service. He was a member of the Benton Harbor Legion 1137. In his spare time he enjoyed traveling, woodworking, and working around his home.
Leonard is survived by his wife Sue Stark Turner of Benton Harbor; son David Michael Turner of Benton Harbor; two grandchildren Brendon & Jacob Turner; Sue's children Donna Jewell and her son of Coloma, and Dennis (Teresa) Milnickel of Coloma, and there seven children; two brothers Gerald (Jane) Turner of Puyallup Washington, and Ed (Linda) Turner of Alabaster, Alabama; one sister Juanita Merideth of Benton Harbor; and several nieces & nephews. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents and late wife Wanda Faye Turner.
