Lee's Obituary

Lee Davis, 68, of St. Joseph, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Caretel Inns of Lakeland in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Eternal will be held 10:30 A.M. Monday at the First Church of God, 2627 Niles Ave., St. Joseph, with Rev. Robert Confer officiating. Graveside services will be held 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at Walker Cemetery in Hardy, Arkansas. Friends may call Sunday from 2:00 until 4:00PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to the First Church of God Building Fund or Lakeland Hospice. Those wishing to sign Lee's Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Ether Lee Davis, Jr. was born September 20, 1942 in Bay, Arkansas to Ether Sr. & Mary (Powell) Davis. He graduated from Bay High School in 1961. On November 19, 1965, he married the former Mary Ann Cheever in Harington, Kansas. In 1966 they moved to St. Joseph, where Lee and Mary began their service at the First Church of God in St. Joseph as Custodians. In 1979 they began their service at the First United Methodist Church, retiring in 2001 from First Methodist, and in 2007 from First Church. In his spare time, Lee enjoyed tending to his home, yard and vegetable garden. He was a devoted husband to Mary, and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Lee is survived by his wife Mary; three sisters-Ruby Davis, Lavena Burton, both of LaVerne CA, Lois Jean Brooks, of Mountain Home, Arkansas; brother & sister in laws-Shirley (Gerald) Dix of Harington, KS, Donald (Barbara) Cheever of Salina, KS, Ilene McWhorter of Bennington, KS, Kenneth (Ida) Cheever of Abilene, KS; and numerous nieces & nephews.
