Lovie Johnson

Lovie Johnson 80, of Benton Harbor, MI left this earthy life and went to be with the Lord Friday, March 4, 2011 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, March 10, 2011 at First Presbyterian, 475 Green St., in Benton Harbor. Burial will follow at Crystal Spring Cemetery in Benton Harbor. Friends may visit from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Thursday at the church. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian. Those wishing to share a memory online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Lovie was born September 25, 1930 in Jackson, Mississippi to Jasper & Birda (Robinson) Alexander. On August 27, 1950 she married John L. Harmon, who preceded her in death. She married Earl Johnson July 21, 1987 who also preceded her in death. Lovie worked in home care nursing. She was a mother to eight children who she loved, cared and nurtured. Her family was the center of her life. Lovie accepted the Lord into her life at an early age. She loved spending time with her family and friends, she enjoyed cooking. Lovie was loving and kind to everyone she met, and she never met a stranger, to many she was known as mama, grandma or friend. Lovie was survived by her eight children Charles (Cookie) Harmon of Benton Harbor, Anna Williams of Benton Harbor, Veronica Harmon of IN, John (Theresa) Harmon of Benton Harbor, Bridget (Gordon) Woodson of CA, Gary (Brenda) Harmon of Benton Harbor, Bernadette (Archie) Carpenter of Benton Harbor, and Gregory (Tiah) Harmon of Seattle, WA. Two stepsons Ronnie Johnson and Jeffrey Johnson of Detroit; 23 grandchildren; a host of great and great great grandchildren; three sisters Lila Bell Mack, Lue Bertha Sterling, and Josephine Mungin; special grandson Herman many nieces and – nephews. Lovie was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, brother Rev. Sam Alexander, and two grandchildren Monti Harmon and Vanessa Jones.
