Elizabeth Rose Blodgett, 85, of St. Joseph, died Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at Caretel Inn in St. Joseph. A visitation celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. In the spring, there will be a Memorial Mass at St. Ignatius Church in Houghton, MI with burial at Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton, MI. Betty was born on April 2, 1925 in Ontonogon, MI to Lavant and Rose Blodgett. Betty was the youngest of five children. The family moved to Houghton in 1927 when Mr. Blodgett died. Betty graduated from Houghton High School and then started working for Michigan Bell Telephone Co. She transferred to Benton Harbor in 1959 when her mother died. Betty continued working for Michigan Bell until 1981, when she retired as a member of the Pioneers. She is survived by her sisters, Jean and Elaine, many nieces and nephews and special friends Doloris Bittner and Charles Arens. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Paul and sister, Mary, as well as Paul Arens. The family has requested that all memorial contributions be made to Catholic Charities.
