Ervin's Obituary

Ervin Wesner, 88, of St. Joseph, went to meet his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, Friday, December 24, 2010 at St. Joseph Hospital in Tampa, Florida. A Celebration of Eternal Life Service will be held 11:30 A.M. Thursday at the First Church of God, 2627 Niles Ave., St. Joseph with Rev. Robert Confer officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph. Friends may call from 5:00 until 7:00P.M. Wednesday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Forgotten Man Ministries, First Church of God Transportation Fund for Prime Timers, First Church of God Building Fund or Crystal Springs Church of God Roof Fund. Those wishing to sign Erv's Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Erv was born July 8, 1922 in St. Joseph to William & Alvina (Kalbach) Wesner. He was raised on Lions Park Drive and was proud to be a “Sand Rabbit.” He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1940. He was employed at Whirlpool Corp. in St. Joseph for 35 years retiring in 1984. On July 3, 1948 he married the former Alma Arndt in St. Joseph. She preceded him in death on April 23, 1998. On June 5, 1999, he married Helen Harer Reiter Wortz in Coldwater, Michigan. Erv was a member of the First Church of God where he served on the Board of Trustees, served as an usher, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and was a member of the Prime Timers Ministry. Erv was a volunteer for Forgotton Man Ministry where he visited the Berrien County Jail every Monday evening to witness to the inmates. For the last 25 years, Erv enjoyed wintering in Florida. Erv's life was devoted to serving his Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. Erv is survived by his wife Helen; his son David (Sybille) Wesner of Germany; his daughter Kathy Swisher of Watervliet; two step-sons-Dennis (Carol) Reiter of Fort Wayne, IN, Douglas (Anne) Reiter of Anchorage, AK; his sister “Rusty” (Al) Ratcliff of Shaumberg, IL; and his brother William (Edna) Wesner, Jr. of Lexington, KY. In addition to his first wife Alma, Erv was preceded in death by his parents, and by three brothers & three sisters.
