Gerald L. “Red” Swears, 68, of Benton Harbor, passed away, Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Lakeland Continuing Care Center in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Friends may call beginning at Noon Saturday at the funeral home. Cremation will follow the service. Jerry was born August 22, 1942 in Benton Harbor to Lincoln & Ruth (Wright) Swears. He was formerly employed by Benton Harbor Public Works Department and most recently at Hoffmann Die Cast in St. Joseph. In his spare time, Jerry enjoyed hunting & fishing. Jerry is survived by his mother, Ruth Moritz of Benton Harbor; three sisters-Lois Jean Johnson of Cave City, AR, Rose (Ed) Kovar of Bridgman, MI, Pam (Ted) Durden of Benton Harbor; numerous nieces & nephews; and his best friend Jim Bedunah of Riverside, MI. He was preceded in death by his father Lincoln Swears and his sister Jean Potter.
