Bernhard G. Lewald

Bernhard Lewald, 82, of St. Joseph passed away, Saturday, November 27, 2010 at his home. A Memorial Service will be held 5:00 P.M. Friday, December 3, 2010 at Washington Avenue Church of God, 4051 Washington, in St. Joseph with Pastor Andreas Hannich officiating. Bernhard was born April 23, 1928 in Danzig to August & Anna (Schulze) Lewald. On October 20, 1956 he married Erna Kempe in Fritzlar, Germany. Bernhard worked for Leco Co. for over 10 years. He was a man of God who loved the Lord with all his heart. Bernhard loved his grandchildren, gave the best hugs and told many stories. He loved mission work and was known to be a “Fixer Man”. But most of all he was totally in love with his wife for over 54 years. Bernhard was survived by his wife Erna Lewald of St. Joseph; two sons Norbert (Debbie) Lewald of N.C., and Gerald Lewald of AZ; two daughters Angela (Werner) Mantei of Toronto and Heike (Dave) Reeves of FL; 10 grandchildren Jon, Joan, Sara, Samuel, Justin, Aaron, Evelyn, Shannon, Andrea, and Erica; 9 great grandchildren Nicole, Cierra, Aidan, Sidney, Aimee, Abigail, Eric, Mia, and Hunter; sister Ushi Poplovske; brother Reinhard Lewald; Bernhard was preceded in death by his parents; three sons Peter, Paul and Ralph Lewald; and by six brothers and sisters.
