Robert Gahris

Berrien Center, MI – Robert Otto Gahris, 88, of Berrien Center, MI, died Monday, December 20, 2010 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Noon at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. The burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Robert was born on July 8, 1922 in Tiffin, Ohio to Herman and Mary (Culver) Gahris. He married Marjorie Finney on April 10, 1948 in Custar, OH. He was a member of the New Troy Grace Brethren Church where he served in many positions including elder. He was a veteran of WWII, serving 4 years in the Pacific in the Army Air Corp. Robert and his family moved to Michigan while working with Whirlpool. He was later employed with Simplicity Pattern of Niles as Controller, from which he retired. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Berrien Center, daughters, Marcia Foote of Grand Blanc and Marilyn (Ron) Arend of Berrien Center, grandchildren, Matthew (Rachel) Arend of Corvallis, OR and Stacy Arend of Las Vegas, NV, great- grandchildren, Danielle and Zachary Arend and a sister, Laura (Sam) Kiesel of Tiffin, OH He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, George and son-in-law, Dan Foote. The family has requested that all memorial contributions be made to New Troy Grace Brethren Church.
