St. Joseph, MI – Marion J. Hafer, 81, of St. Joseph, MI. died Sunday, November 14, 2010, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph. The memorial service is scheduled for Friday, November 19th, at 9:30 a.m. at St.Bernard Catholic Church, 555 Delaware St., Benton Harbor, with burial following at Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph, MI. Friends may meet with the family at 9:00 a.m. before the service. The arrangements are entrusted with Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. The family has requested that all memorial contributions be made to Humane Society of S.W. Michigan. Marion was born on November 30, 1928, in Mishawaka, IN, to Gustave and Anna (Waumans) Laporte, She graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1947 and attended classes at Indiana University Center in South Bend. She married Russell Minges in 1953. In 1973 she married Raymond O. Hafer. Marion worked at All-Phase Electric as a secretary and later as a lighting consultant. She was a member of Lakeland Hospital Volunteers for 20 years and a past member of the Monday Musical Club. She enjoyed playing golf, tennis, bridge and reading. After her husband Ray's retirement, they spent many winters in Florida where they enjoyed many friendships and activities. She is survived by her children, Mark (Barbara) Minges and Maureen Minges and her step children, Lynne Graft, R. John Hafer, Stephen Hafer, Karen (Jim) Frank, Laurie (Tom) Baldwin & Marianne (Jeff) Schroeder. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Amanda Minges, Justin (Tanya) Reese, Stephanie Graft, Courtney Graft, R. Michael Hafer, Jaime R. Ratke, Derek S. Ratke, Kelly (Jeff) Yeager, Erin (Brad) Hamilton, Michael T. Baldwin and Kyla Galbreath and great grandchildren, Justin Russell, Jennifer Platt, Levi Minges, Talan and Kendall Yeager and Justine and Tammy Reese. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ray and brother, Leroy Laporte.
