Elaine H. Arnt

Des Plaines, IL – Elaine Hope Arnt, of Des Plaines, IL, formerly of Stevensville, MI, passed away on Monday, October 18, 2010. A celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Starks & Menchinger Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd. – St. Joseph, MI. The visitation will be held on Friday, October 22, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The family has requested that memorial contributions be directed to Stevensville United Methodist Church. Elaine was born on August 22, 1924 in Chicago, IL to Valentine and Willette (Goodwin) Kuss. She married Charles H. Arnt on November 11, 1944 in Chicago, IL. Elaine is survived by her children, Jan (Bill) Atwood of Harrisburg, PA, Connie (Wally) Obrochta of Chicago, IL and Randy (Barbara) Arnt of Coppell, TX, a brother, Bruce Kuss of Park Ridge, IL, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Valentine and Willette and her beloved husband, Charles. Elaine had three passions in her life; her family, friends and flowers. Elaine thoroughly enjoyed gardening and won several prizes for her floral displays on her balcony of her apartment. Her friends from her youth, her “Sorority sisters”, in the Chicago area, remained life-long friends. She cherished them all. Later, after moving to St. Joseph, she enjoyed close friendships with neighbors, card groups, friends from work, “The Lunch Bunch”, and finally the friends from her assisted living facility. She truly loved time spent with family and the special occasions that brought them together. She was a wonderful mother, wife, sister, daughter, grandmother and friend and she will be missed and remembered fondly by those that knew and loved her.
