David's Obituary

Benton Harbor, MI – David Karl Maki, 52, of Benton Harbor died October 10, 2010 peacefully at home wrapped in the loving care of his family, friends and music. David was born December 21, 1957 in St. Joseph, the son of Clinton and Evelyn Maki. David was a well-known local musician, sound engineer, recording engineer and humorist. David performed with numerous musicians using a wide variety of musical styles for over forty years. A “Musical Tribute” event will be held on Saturday, October 16 in honor of David at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. A visitation with the family will be held from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM followed by live music performed by David's friends from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The requested attire for the musical tribute is “blue jeans”. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Humane Society. David is survived by his wife of 24 years, LeeAnn (Kulhanek) of Benton Harbor; mother Evelyn Maki of St Joseph; sisters Kristine Maki of South Bend and Alison Rasmussen of South Bend; brothers Philip (Loni) Maki of St. Joseph and John Mark Maki of South Bend; nephews Erik Rasmussen and Benjamin Maki; nieces Courtney Anegon-Lambert (RJ), Kathrin Maki and Jennie Rasmussen; and many, many friends. David was preceded in death by his father, Clinton Maki.
