Virginia Bishop

ST. JOSEPH – Virginia Grace Bishop, 90, of St. Joseph, passed away on Friday, September 10, 2010, at Lakeland Continuing Care Center. A service celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Starks and Menchinger Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Apostolic Tabernacle Church. Virginia was born January 3, 1920 in Pageton, West Virginia to Isiah and Rachel (Parks) Lane. She married August Bishop on December 15, 1934 in Pageton, WV. She was a devoted member of the Apostolic Tabernacle Church in Benton Harbor. For many years she worked at the Williams Box Factory in St. Joseph. Virginia is survived by her children, Jeanette Velez of Niles, MI, Barbara Chaney of St. Joseph, MI, Carol Price of Defiance, OH, Denise Bishop of St. Joseph, MI, Nancy Moody of Belleville, MI and Brian Bishop of St. Joseph, MI, a sister, Helen McKinney of West Virginia, 18 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, August Bishop in 1979, a son, August Bishop, Jr., her parents, Isiah and Rachel and a granddaughter, Julia Barnes.
