Rosalie Hermina (Maurer) Lhota, 91, of Saint Joseph passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Lakeland Continuing Care Center in Saint Joseph.. Rose was born February 26, 1919 in Grand Forks, North Dakota to Solomon and Hermina (Heidt) Maurer. In 2003 Rose moved to the Whitcomb Retirement Center after living in Leesburg, Florida for 25 years. In Leesburg she worked as a professional fashion model with the Stella Brown Agency for 8 years, was the first woman volunteer firefighter in Lake County, Florida for the Leesburg Fire Dept. for seven years and was a charter member of Altrusa of Lake County, Florida, and served with the Picciola Leesburg Fire Dept as Secretary, Vice President and President. Prior to moving to Florida she lived in the Detroit area where she was chairman of the 17 N.W. unit of the League of Women Voters, a PTA president and chairman of the Detroit PTA Council. She was active in cub scouts and was a brownie leader. She moved to Lake Orion, Michigan in 1963 where she worked as a Realtor for 10 years. She again became active in the PTA council and was Business chairman of the United Way. Rose always commented on how she loved living at the Whitcomb with its many friendly and wonderful residents. For the past year she was at Lakeland Continuing Care Center in St Joseph, MI where she received great care. She was always wearing a smile and loved making people laugh. She was a very beautiful, talented, artistic woman. She enjoyed decorating, sewing and designing clothes and keeping up with the latest make-up and fashion trends. She is survived by her son Glen (Philis) Marentette of Venice, FL/Battle Creek, MI and a daughter Carol (Dr. Charles) Alderdice of St. Joseph, MI, 7 grandchildren, Jason Marentette of Coldwater, MI, Kathi Alderdice of Mishawaka, IN, Kelly (Kari) Marentette of Farmington Hills, MI, Christine Alderdice (Brandon Fleming) of St. Joseph, MI, Angie (Jim)Taft of Battle Creek, MI, Jessica (Dan) Batz of DeForest, WI, Andrew Alderdice of Alisa Viejo, CA and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters and three husbands.
