John M. Smart, 74 of St. Joseph died at his home on Saturday September 11, 2010 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery with Military Rites conducted. Friends may visit from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday with prayes said at 7:00 PM at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to American Heart Assoc. Friend may send there condolences to guestbook at www.starks-menchinger.com John was born on June 3, 1936 in Benton Harbor to George & Marie (McKerrihan) Smart He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1954, and then entered the army; after returning he went to Western Michigan University and earned a BS in Business in 1959. On September 13, 1958 he married Jean Nemethy at St. Joseph Catholic Church. John was a big sports fan and his teams are University of Michigan, Chicago Bears & Cubs. He enjoyed playing Softball and Golfing. He was a member of the Korean War Vets and head usher at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife Jean of St. Joseph; a daughter Stefani Smart of Lyons Michigan, a son Scott (Kathleen) Smart of Baroda, three grandchildren Casey, Savannah and Dylan; two brothers Richard (Gloria) Smart of Muskogee OK. and Edward Smart of Niles, many nieces and nephews . Preceded in death by a brother George Smart.
